POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide support, advocacy and referral services to child victims/witnesses and their non-offending family members. The Child and Family Advocate will provide culturally sensitive and well-coordinated services throughout the child maltreatment investigation, intake through disposition and beyond if required. This critical member of the multi-disciplinary team will ensure that every family who connects with CAC receives support in a timely manner, for as long, and to the extent they determine is needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Intake meeting with parent/guardian
• Scheduling of interviews with appropriate partner
• Greeting and orientation of children and families to the CAC.
• Coordination of services for child and family
• Ensure all immediate needs and concerns are addressed.
• Liaise with victim services to make support more accessible and available to children and their families from diverse areas.
• Provide support, information, and resources to children, youth and families that are referred through CAC.
• Be a consistent and continual support to children, youth, and family providing ongoing support and follow up throughout their entire process through CAC (first entry to CAC, investigation, medical, court, and after).
• Ensure that they have an accurate understanding of the different components of the process at CAC and that they know who to go to for specific questions (connect the pieces for the families).
• Increase child and family access to resources available to them in the community.
• Specific support for caregivers, including ongoing follow-up support and referrals for additional services.
• Introducing the child and family as required to key players and supporting them as they move through each stage of the process.
• Over the phone or in person follow-up after appointments, interviews, etc. as directed by the family’s needs.
• Attend and participate in regularly scheduled CAC team meetings, debriefs and case reviews, where indicated.
• Actively participate in agency-wide initiatives when appropriate, including fundraising ventures and public presentation.

EDUCATION & UNDERSTANDING:
• Master’s degree in a related human/social service field.
• Sound knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and the child welfare system, the Judicial System (and relevant legislation) and services available to victims/witnesses and their families.
• Sound knowledge of child and adolescent development and child and adolescent trauma.
• Training in working with people with disabilities and people with mental health challenges preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
• Five (5) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, training and experience.
• Proven track record of successful responses to crisis situations and providing immediate crisis support
• Experience working with people with disabilities and people with mental health challenges preferred.
