"Chatelaine" were worn on a ladies waist to carry items she needed, whether it was items for sewing, or nursing care, or in this instance when a lady was going out and wanted to have a notepad (made of celluloid pages - maybe as a dance card), a coin holder and a container most likely used for powder. This was brought over from England before 1900. It is in delicate condition. Made of cut steel. If you aren't familiar with Chatelaines, I suggest you Google it and see the many types there were.
