To place an ad or respond to an ad via the CONTACT SELLER link you must REGISTER for a free account.

The only personal information we ask from you during registration is your email address. We don't spam our members or sell or lease our membership list. For convenience's sake, when you register for classifieds, you are also registered to use our online forums. This gives you a single login for Castanet, instead of two separate ones to remember.

All categories are FREE*. Pictures are also free with all ads.

Merchandise, service, rentals, and announcement categories cost $5 to highlight and pin ads to the top of a category.

Wheels and RV categories cost $10 to highlight and pin ads to the top of a category.

Real Estate costs $15 to highlight and pin ads to the top of a category.

It costs $2.50 to bold your ad in all categories.

All prices are clearly stated at the bottom of ad entry screens.

* Retailers/Merchandise Businesses are no longer allowed to advertise in our regular classifieds. We have created a "Stores" option, if interested please contact our sales staff at sales@castanet.net.
(Please note all Retailer/Merchandise Businesses will be deleted from the Classifieds approval queue.)

Anyone can view an ad, but you must have an account to respond to an ad where a phone number or email address is not written in the ad. Why do we do this? Our system protects the seller from getting on a spam list by using our system as a middleman to pass messages through. Click on the REGISTER button to sign-up for an account. We advise all sellers to include their phone numbers in ads should a potential buyer not be able to or wish to sign up for an account.

Since our classifieds are a free service, we do not take classifieds sent to us via email or over the phone. Don't despair! Placing a classified ad directly online is easy as 1-2-3! Plus, you can easily CANCEL, MODIFY and RENEW past ads!

Here are the instructions:

STEP 1: Sign-up for a classifieds account.
Visit http://classifieds.castanet.net/ and click on the REGISTER link on the right of the screen. After you complete the register screens, we will immediately send you an email with a link that you must click on to activate your account.

STEP 2: Login and place your ad.
Visit http://classifieds.castanet.net/ and click on the "login" link in the right corner of the screen. Next click PLACE AN AD. Don't forget to provide your phone number in the ad description. To edit an ad, click MY ADS, then click the ad you want to edit. Finally click EDIT AD.

STEP 3: Let us review your new/revised ad and within 24 hours or shorter it will be put on the site.

The seller and buyer assume all risks inherent in a transaction. If you have had difficulty with a buyer or seller, your recourse is to leave feedback on that person on our system and seek redress through the courts.

We typically receive this question from users who have just submitted their first ad, expecting it to show up instantly on the site. All new ads or modified ads must be a approved by the Castanet Classifieds Editor before it shows on site. Chances are the ad has not yet been approved. Let us review your ad and within 24 hours or shorter it will be put on the site.

If you still can't find your ad, are you looking for it in the right edition? Kelowna? Penticton? Vernon? Be sure that your ad, via the MY ADS link, is in the right edition you would like it to appear.

Our system allows bidding on items. The seller inputs the MINIMUM amount they will accept for the item. Bidders then input a MAXIMUM amount they will pay for an item. The site will then automatically bid you up from the lowest price until the maximum bid amount you entered. That saves the bidder from continually coming back to the site. If you are outbid, you will receive an email notification at the email address you used when you signed up.

Depending on the item's initial price, the automatic bid amount goes up anywhere from $0.25 to $25 using the following formula.

1. If the current price is less than $10, the additional bid increments will be $0.25
2. If the current price is $10 or more but less than $50, the additional bid increments will be $1.00
3. If the current price is $50 or more but less than $100, the additional bid increments will be $5.00
4. If the current price is $100 or more but less than $500, the additional bid increments will be $10.00
5. If the current price is greater than $500, the additional bid increments will be $25.00

Sellers may not cancel or change the price of an ad mid-auction. Buyers and sellers must honour the outcome of an auction. At Castanet's discretion, buyers or sellers who do not honour a bid or final price on an auction will have their Castanet accounts permanently suspended.

On most item categories you can have buyers BUY IT NOW via an already established PayPal account. For this function to work, your email address on file with us much match your email address on file with PayPal.

We approve new ads at least three times daily including holidays and weekends.

Castanet reserves the right, without notice, to edit, categorize, revise, or to decline any classified advertisement for any reason. As it is our intent to uphold the highest standards of accuracy, clarity and legality.

You can cancel your ad at any time by signing into the interface, clicking MY ADS, then clicking on CANCEL or delete.

Three days before your ad is set to expire, you will get an email warning you of the expiration and a link to renew the ad. BEFORE you click on the link in the email, open your browser and login to your classifieds account.

If you missed renewing your ad, you can always RELIST it. Login to classifieds and click MY ADS. Next, click the ad you want to relist. Then click RELIST it. The ad will be relisted for the original period of time the original ad was. You can also change the RELISTING default time period when you edit an ad. A new relisting time period takes effect the next time an ad is renewed.

RELISTED ads will again show up at the top of each category and work their way down as other ads come in.

If you forgot your password, you can click forgot password on the login screen to get these re-sent to you.

If you forgot your USERNAME, visit our forum login page at http://forums.castanet.net/ucp.php?mode=login and enter your email address instead of your username. Note your username for next time in top right corner next to the LOGOUT link. You can now switch back to classifieds from forums.

If it appears that you have logged in, but you keep getting sent back to the "unlogged in" classifieds page, there is a strong possibility that your browser has been set not to accept cookies. Our classifieds system needs cookies turned on in order to work. (Don't worry, we don't track personal information or sell data used by cookies.) To turn cookies back on in Internet Explorer, click TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS. Click the PRIVACY tab. Move the slider to the MEDIUM HIGH or lower position.

If that doesn't work, pleased click the DELETE MY COOKIES link on the login page.

You will receive a database error when you place an ad if you took more than 30 minutes from when you first logged in until when you hit submit to place your ad. Please try again keeping in mind this time restriction.

Our site uses cookies to track which edition of classifieds you are using: Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton. If your browser's security settings are set to block cookies, you won't see any ads as our system won't know what edition to show you. To allow cookies in Castanet classifieds, in Internet Explorer do the following:

1. Click TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS. Select the SECURITY tab. Click the DEFAULT LEVEL button.
2. Next click the PRIVACY tab, click the DEFAULT button and then click OK.

In order to use Castanet Classifieds you must verify your email address with us when you register. After your registration, you should receive an email from us within minutes. The email will have a link that you must click on to activate your account. If you didn't receive this email, let us know in your email and we will manually activate your account. Our email address is classifieds@castanet.net

If you are using a webmail email address service like Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail, we strongly advise you to add "@castanet.net" to your service's spam filter whitelist. Otherwise, email from potential buyers could be blocked. Users of ISP accounts or corporate accounts like shaw.ca and telus.net are not affected by this.

You may upload up to five images with your ad. Any one individual picture can't be larger than 2 megabytes in size. Photos must be in a JPG, GIF, or PNG format. No other photo file type will work.

The file size limitation is in place to save you from having to wait an inordinate amount of time in uploading your ad. To take smaller sized photos, reduce the megapixel setting on your digital camera and shoot again.

If you have repeated trouble with a photo, try renaming the picture's filename before uploading. Also, try uploading one picture at a time in the modify ad screen.

To change your email address or password, login to classifieds and click PROFILE to change these settings. You'll see a link at the top called Click here to change your password or email address on file.

We strongly advise sellers NOT to deal with international based buyers or buyers who wish to pay via Western Union or some other unusual method. Under no circumstances should you allow buyers to overpay your asking amount and then reimburse them the difference.

If you believe someone has sent you a questionable scam email, please email us the details. We'll let you know if it is suspicious and disable the sender's account.
